Louisiana high school students learn dangers of irresponsible driving

Sophomore students of Vinton and Sulphur High School recently learned about the dangers and hazards of irresponsible driving through the “Sudden Impact” program. Teenagers were exposed to talks, exercised, and mock-procedures designed to shed light on the possible results of drunk or distracted driving.

Louisiana State Trooper Brett McKee hoped that vehicular accidents can be prevented through programs like this one that aim to instill good driving habits in young drivers. Aside from learning about the dangers of drunk driving and laws surrounding driving errors, participants toured a hospital room and learned about medical procedures and treatments for accident victims. The program was made possible through the collaboration of West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital and the Louisiana State Police.

Unfortunately, many car accident victims are left permanently disabled and often require prolonged and costly treatment.
