Driver dead in Tangipahoa vehicular accident

A recent vehicular accident involving a garbage truck resulted in a death in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, an article of The Advocate reported on March 22.

Reports stated that, at around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Independence resident Edward Stewart, 64, died instantly after crashing his vehicle into the back portion of a parked garbage truck. Truck driver Christi Davis reportedly stopped the vehicle in the area while collecting garbage. Garbage collector Joel Nathaniel Figueroa was airlifted to a hospital after suffering critical injuries in the incident.

Figueroa was working behind the truck when the accident took place. Though responding authorities did not suspect impairment in the fatal incident, they took blood samples from Stewart and Davis. State police released in a public statement that they are still investigating the incident and have sent the blood samples to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab to be analyzed.

The thoughts and prayers of our entire team go out to the family and friends of Stewart for their recent loss.
